The arrival of the new accelerator at Hall A3 marks a major step forward in the development of the Scientific Infrastructure Platform for Advanced Technologies and Materials Research – TechMat, which will create new opportunities for research at the Ruđer Bošković Institute.
In late 2025, the first part of the equipment for the new accelerator arrived at the Ruđer Bošković Institute. The accelerator will be housed in the new A3 facility. After a demanding transport operation and complex logistics, the equipment was successfully delivered and moved into the hall, marking an important milestone in the establishment of this new research infrastructure.
The accelerator is part of the Scientific Infrastructure Platform for Advanced Technologies and Materials Research (TechMat), which is being developed as a modern hub for research in materials science and advanced technologies. Hall A3 was built specifically to house the new accelerator, and the project also includes the reconstruction of the neutron generator building.
Work on this infrastructure began in May 2023, with preparatory construction activities including excavation and foundation works. The new hall and its supporting infrastructure will provide state-of-the-art conditions for research and further strengthen the capacities of the Ruđer Bošković Institute.
The TechMat platform will enable scientists to conduct research across a wide range of fields, from the synthesis and production of materials, to the development of advanced analytical techniques for material characterization, as well as research in photonics, novel devices, and radiation technologies.
The arrival of the accelerator therefore represents much more than the delivery of a valuable piece of equipment. It is an important step in strengthening the scientific infrastructure that will support the long-term development of new knowledge, technologies, and research directions at the Ruđer Bošković Institute.
