Over the past three months, substantial progress has been made in the infrastructure works at the Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI) as part of the capital O-ZIP project (Open Scientific Infrastructural Platforms for Innovative Applications in the Economy and Society). Key milestones include the installation of ventilated facades, steel structures, and other critical upgrades across various buildings.
Below is an update on the ongoing works:
-
ICST Building (A1)
Designed to support researchers in computer science, this facility has seen the installation of a ventilated facade and steel windbreaker structures. Interior works, including mechanical systems, electrical installations, and water supply and drainage systems, are also progressing steadily. -
Accelerator Hall (A3)
The new accelerator hall has reached its final external appearance, with roofing and mechanical installations nearing completion. A connecting bridge to the existing structure has also been constructed. Upcoming works include the assembly of massive doors, measuring 5.5 x 4 meters and weighing several tons. -
Chemistry and Molecular Medicine Building (A0)
Construction for this state-of-the-art facility is advancing with the completion of sub-base concrete, horizontal waterproofing, and thermal insulation under the foundation slab. Reinforcement and concreting are ongoing, with the building beginning to take shape above ground level. -
Boiler House (B4)
Outdated fuel oil tanks have been removed, paving the way for a more sustainable heating system using heat pumps. -
Environmental Works (A6)
Efforts include road levelling beneath the existing A3 building and excavation for a parking area and fire access route. As the heating season concludes, work will accelerate to integrate the new energy facility with the thermal substations of existing buildings.
These developments mark a significant step forward in enhancing the RBI’s infrastructure to support cutting-edge research and innovation. The O-ZIP project reflects a commitment to fostering scientific excellence while embracing sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
